New Clear Exchange
Past Project
ICAN in partnership with the Australian Conservation Foundation held four workshops on nuclear weapons issues in February 2010 in Melbourne, Perth, Adelaide and Sydney. In all, around 100 non-government representatives took part in the workshops. The discussion was powerful, innovative and informative.
They were a dynamic mix of information and discussion about nuclear weapons issues aimed at exciting lively discussions with ICAN partners and other NGOs on how nuclear disarmament is interconnected with the issues of climate change, aid and development, domestic nuclear issues and social justice. We provided contemporary and easy-to-understand information on:
- Current nuclear weapons capabilities
- National and international efforts towards disarmament
- The Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty
- The Model Nuclear Weapons Convention
- The United Nations treaty system
The workshops were specifically targeted for environmental NGOs, aid and development organisations, church groups, unions and international studies students and academics, as well as those already involved in nuclear issues in Australia and globally.
The feedback we have had is that the workshops were very useful as information exchange and a networking opportunity and many groups got to work closely with people they had never met before.
